I'm posting this question for the second time.. help me please... I'm using Kaspersky Online and after 100% update, this message appears:

Obviously, i am online, i am connected to the internet. Why doesn't it work? I tried installing java, i also reinstalled the internet explorer. it still doesn't work. help me please. i only trust Kaspersky.

if you trust kaspersky only, then install their security suite or antivirus and evaluate it. I cannot properly solve your question, bt you can even ask for its valid! keys from me at samdarsh4u2@yahoo.com

You can do one thing, turn off your firewall and then try to run the scanner. Otherwise if you want to go free, switch to avira antivirus v8. It has excellent detection (even more than kaspersky). I have tried all antiviruses, and Kaspersky and Avira are my best. So i keep the keyas of these products with me. Ask for them if U want. Even if they are blocked, i will give it to you instantly a new 1 when they are blocked

i love the wii. my favorite console out there right now.

but! i think online could be cooler.

i have many games for it, and i have to say the only good one i have for online is Medal of Honor 2.

just because there is no lag, and lots of games, ones that i can actually see/choose.

unlike the guitar hero online. very, very unimpressed with that games wi-fi.

i get so agrivated over GH3 wi-fi, becuase il make mine any non ranked game, and i get nothing back.

just let me look at the games for crying out loud.

Also, Dragon ball z 3??? could that online be any worse? i haven't tried to play online for over a month now because i kept on getting kicked off/laggy.

so, have you guys had any problems with it?

and if so... how did you come up with a solution?

Nintendo is really stupid with their online. It's Nintendo's weakness, for some reason they can't just look at Xbox Live and copy it. If you want great online, get a gaming PC. The Wii is not a good system for online, but it is great for single player adventures and local multiplayer.

Is virginia college online a good school?

Right now i am going to strayer university online and to be honest i hate it. You call and it seems like no one wants to help you or you get the run around. I am thinking about transferring to virginia college online but havent seen much about it online. So is it a good school or not let me know or should i just stay with strayer?

I am going for my associates in paralegal and when i graduate want it to be a plus on my resume. Now for the other question does Virginia college online look better on a resume or does strayer. What is the best online school to take for an associates in paralegal? Thanks to anyone who can help.

As a graduate from VC Online, I want to set the record straight. Tuition for Business and Health related programs that are undergraduate are $325 per credit hour. IT programs are $355 per quarter. Also, they are NOT regionally accredited; they are NATIONALLY accredited. Most graduate schools will not accept their credits. Also, Master's programs are $515 per credit hour.

After graduating when searching for a new job, employers specifically ask if my degree is from a regionally accredited college and I tell them NO the interview ends.

Check all your info before you commit to them.
Reply:I'm looking at VIrginia College also, but was going to ask the same question. A website I was looking at said it is good b/c the tuition is low and everything is included in the tuition. However the tuition can only be found out by calling I'm finding out. Overall, it is regionally accredited (rare online) and it seems to be low priced. I might choose it. And they have school gear! You can also just put Virginia College instead of VC ONLINE. I might be choosing - this was all just my novice opinion of the school, we're both exploring.

I have a PS3 and recently set up online on it!

Formula One Championship Edition automatically set up its online information but when I put in NBA 2K8 (which does have online mode), nothing happened.

How do I get the PS3 to download and install the NBA 2K8 online information so that I can play online?

NOTE: When I tried to go online while 'in' NBA 2K8, it said I had to go to Network Settings. I did that, and it didn't help!

AFAIK, Planex wifi usb adapter are the only official brand which is working hand in hand with Xlink Kai ( Online gaming community) probably you will want to do a google or yahoo on X Link Kai to find out more.

Viewpoint from as wireless adapters, they all work the same if you are connecting to a wireless hotspot/Access point / router. Thus as long as it is a 54mbps adapter, it will work for you. the coverage is roughly the same

Questions about degrees online in health care etc.?

If you get a degree in Health Care Administration online could you eventually become a doctor from that degree? I would like to eventually become a Doctor but I dont see anytime for a regular college right now so want to do online. What degree program can I do online that will eventually lead me to being a doctor. I don't want to be wasting my time now doing nothing so I figured an online degree would be good. I know if I get a degree in science I should be ok but I can't find an online university that offers that. I know thats alot but any help would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!

You "might" be able to complete an online degree and eventually attend medical school, but it will challenging.

1) Medical schools require students to take several science courses with labs during their undergraduate years

2) Medical school admissions are already tough enough, earning an online degree "might" put you at a certain disadvantage

3) Some medical schools may limit the number of distance education / correspondence / online courses that may be taken.

Online Degree

That said, if you still want to try, do not worry about studying health care administration, unless you just like that field. Medical schools admit students from a broad range of backgrounds... ranging from history to art and everywhere in between.

Extracurriculars

Admissions' committees like to see well-rounded students who participate in college life. That's hard to do online. If you still go that route, get involved with the community or at your church, etc.

Sciences / Labs

You will have to take your sciences/labs at a local college. There's no way of getting around that.

My opinion (for what it's worth)

Personally, I wouldn't go the online route if your plans are to become a medical doctor. If you were actually referring to a PhD, then by all means, enroll in the online bachelor program of your choice. Medical School is just so competitive and you might be putting yourself at a disadvantage by studying online.

Well, basically, im slowly getting bored of online games. Gunbound is keeping my interest because its fun (lol), but im done with RO...too boring for me now (this includes private servers with gunslingers/ninja). Maplestory is too much of a level grind with too many fanboys/fangirls (its not even that good anyway). I was interested in some Japanese/Korean online games, but they almost always have an IP block so i can't play (since I'm in the states). Currently I'm only playing gunbound and gunster (and trickster...somewhat). Puyo pop fever online (Japanese)/Mr Driller online (Korean) were fine until it got dominated by pros/few ppl playing. Please help! There has to be games out there that are fun, have a good community, and has good replay value (so no maplestory/FFXI PLEASE). Thanks for taking your time in reading this, BUT PLEASE don't respond by saying "yahoo games" or multi-gaming websites...they aren't mmo's (and yes I played WoW already).

I've been hearing so many complaints recently about online bullying. Is this true? What I can't figure out is how can you be bullied, online, by someone in front of a computer, hundreds of miles away? And people get flustered by this. Is it that hard to unplug these days? Must these people constantly stay online even though they are being "bullied" by some psycho internet stalker? I'm still trying to wrap my brain around how one CAN be bullied online. Doesn't make sense to me. Clarifications?

I noticed that NYU has an online management and systems. But, I'm looking for something along the lines of marketing, graphic design, and communications.

I have career experience (2-3 years), and my GPA my undergraduate program was weak.

What REPUTABLE online degree programs are there out there for me?

Personally, I am NOT looking for the classic online schools like Strayer, etc. I'm looking for programs that people wouldn't associate with "online school" when I mention it.

Do I have any options?

I got my MS in Management from Indiana Wesleyan University (www.indwes.edu). The school has been around since the 1890s. It is a faith-based program, but not a religious school (if that makes sense). I loved the program. They have a Bachelors in Marketing or an Associate's in Communication Arts, but I don't think they have Master's degrees in either.

I am sure there are many more out there. Your work experience will help--the on-line programs are designed for working adults. I think I had to write a paper for admission, but I don't remember.

Search for schools (ex: graphic design) and then see if they have on-line programs. Even Harvard has one now!

I'm totally confused, I've tried EVERYTHING!!! How do you play online with ps2 games. I know that the games have to support multiplayer in order to play them online, so don't bring that possibility. I have the slim ps2 but I don't know how to play online.

Anyways, since you have the slim PS2, you dont need a network adapter, not like the other guy said. the slim ps2 comes network ready. also, u cant have a hard drive on slim.(the first guy was talking about the old fat PS2 -(3000 OR 5000 series, U Have the 7000 series)...

Check Your user manual. It should come with CD for online play.

use that.

or just plug in the Ethernet cord from your router or modem in the back of your ps2 where there is a plug for ethernet.

then put in the game close and stuff, turn on... go 2 mode on ur menu of the game, go on online or mulitplayer (idk)

then configure conection....... save the connection configuration on a memory card.

I have been an online student with DeVry University for about two years now, and overall the experience has been great. But lately I've been thinking about changing my program of study, and as I started looking at other universities, I decided to research them, and I found the most terrible things about them!!! But even though I know that a traditional university or community college is a lot better, I simply don't have that option because I have a young child that I have to care for. So online education is my only choice.

So since I've ruled out University of Phoenix, I just wanted to know what you all think about other online schools like Kaplan University, AIU and other online universities?

Have you looked around to see if there are any traditional universities offering an online degree in your subject? That's your best bet. You'll get a degree of unquestioned reputation that way. Additionally, you might find that you can do your course at a public university, which could even end up saving you money in addition to getting a better education and a more respected degree.
Reply:DeVry is accredited, but your local state university may also offer online programs. Consider finding a traditional school that also offers online programs. You will then have a competitive degree that is the same as that of a traditional student. Instead of a for-profit, consider University of Pennsylvania, SUNY, CUNY or another brick and mortar school with an online option.

Don't worry I think you would do good in time... if you think about the way even home work in US is outsourced it is not a bad idea for online tutoring it will be the future... there are already some online tutoring going on like The Growing Stars in Freemont, CA

So go ahead and do it..... But before starting have a solid business plan so that you do not fall into any kind of glitch midway.

I am a teacher working on graduate degrees in gifted education and feel that computer based learning could be a good route for some students, especially the gifted kids or kids who have difficulties paying attention in class. These days, kids are going online at younger ages. First and second grade classes utilize web-based learning programs within their classrooms. I think to get started you might want to contact a school district and see if you can start off working with gifted children who are being taught differentiated learning in their classrooms. This would help the child as well as the teacher by giving them both a new avenue of guided exploration. As far as the age of the child is concerned, I would choose a level and work with them for awhile before branching out farther. If you're comfortable with grade school children, start there and gradually work your way up. If you work with a specific school or school district, they would also help to promote your business by using your site and telling parents about it.

What i mean is if someone is using yahoo personals would it show them to be online. Or would it also show them to be online if they are using yahoo and doing other things besides looking at personals. When someone shows to be online in the personals does it mean they are in the "personals" or does it mean they are online using yahoo?

If someone is online using yahoo... would it show in the personal adds on yahoo that they are online?
On messenger when you go to preferences, if you have checked the box where it says that people may IM you, when you are on yahoo sites, you will get IMed. If you don't have that box checked, then nobody will know you are on yahoo sites.

The other parts of yahoo, if they are on line, a yellow smiley will show, unless they are in stealth mode, or if they have optioned in their profile not to let anyone see that they are on line. Tricky eh? But you can send them an email and see if they will talk to you, from the Yahoo Member Directory Profile, sometimes no email address is given, but some times there is an option, "add me to your friends list" or "IM me" IM=Instant Message, meaning leaving a message for them in a conversation box as if you had them on your list, but maybe that conversation box will alsohave the option to add the person to your yahoo list so do so. mermaid199

My Wii is connected online, and I use it to download Virtual Console games, check the news and weather, and look at other Miis that people have created. I don't have the Internet browser because I have a computer at home (two, in fact) and don't see the point in having another one. You can also communicate with friends who have a Wii via an email-type system, but it's only Wii-to-Wii.

Wii Points are currency to buy VC games. $1 buys you 100 points. You can get the cards at the store and input the number into your Wii, or you can use your credit card to buy points directly from your Wii. I'd recommend going to http://www.nintendo.com to see their list of VC games to see if there are any classics you want to buy.
Reply:well, I'll start by saying, the best thing about the Wii online is the store, it's pretty much all I use it for. you can buy new games,and that's all I really do with the online, if you're not willing to buy games, I don't suggest getting it online.

how to gets points:

there are two ways, you can either buy a Wii points card(at any store that sells wii's, you can buy only 2000 points, which is about $20 dollars worth of points) or you can buy them with a credit card straight from the wii shop channel.

you can send people messages and email people if you add them to you contact list

also if you're gonna buy something to get your wii online buy a wireless router or the lan adapter. don't buy those lame little usb adapters that you plug into your computer since your wii will lag if you play online. and you'll have slow downloads

So I dont want nobody to know when I am online on Facebook. I chose No One on the privacy settings so I see on my page it does not show up that I am not online. But will it if somebody clicks on friends then online now?? Will I show up there as online even though I hid it??

they changed it now so that nobody's profile will actually say "online now".. the only way to see who's online is to click on friends--%26gt; and then online now. you'll get a list of everybody who is online.

If you dont want your name to show up, look under privacy settings--%26gt;and then under profile settings--%26gt; scroll down and you will see where it says "online status" and change it to say don't show!

There is a lot of similar web site and also online information. It also take time to grab all the information. It also take time to read all the words on the screen. I really feel tired on it. After a while, I start not to use online information. I am start to read books instead of online information. I know the information from the books is written by professional and it is more compact, well organized and trustable. Do you think so?

There is no comparison of books %26amp; Internet. Both are good and useful.Questio n is what you want to search a information or related links. if you want a spesific topic then you choose a book of any writter of that topic but if you donot know the book or writer then you fastly search the internet and find related websits and then that topic and then required matter and writter.

So both are there same weatage. Searching a book is like the searching on the internet. If you have that book only then you read that but on internet you can search in any condition.

If you have a custom online now icon, it's not going to go off. They don't really work, just flash constantly.

Also, even the regular online now icon takes a few minutes to go off after you sign out.

so now my question is- if i were to select "only me" or "no one," that makes it so that they don't see the "online now" thing right below your picture? what about if they were to go to "friends--%26gt; online now" would they see me listed as being online then? or would they not see anything at all?

TCF Online Banking- Their balance is wrong!?

Ok, I'm totally confused because I just logged into my TCF bank account online. It said my balance was $1,319.70 including pending transactions.

So I went through my check book and subtracted any outstanding checks that I have and any amounts I intend to spend before I deposit any more money and my calculator said -$91.38!!!

I knew there was NO way this could be. So I took the balance ($1,319.70) and added all transactions that were already showing online as posted. Then I subtracted my latest deposits, all dating back until the 19th, which was the last time I have a slip showing my last known balance. (TCF doesn't do a running balance online, only shows the current balance).

Anyways, through careful memory I realized that "negative" $91.38 was actually 3 seperate transactions from yesterday and today ($82.17, $8.21, and $1 hold from a gas station).

So, why does it say online that my balance is as of 5/23/07 10:45 PM but it is not showing those transactions?

You're in luck. I use to work for TCF. The online banking is a day behind. I believe they update your transactions at midnight so your balance will have transactions deducted that aren't posted in detail til the following day. I just logged on tonight to check my account and it's all messed up so I think they may be having computer problems because when I usually log on it shows me transactions I did on my card right away and all I have to do to balance my account is subtract checks I wrote from the balance. Tonight they are not showing up. Hope this helps.
Reply:Online banking isn't always as immediate as most people think. In some cases, yes. Transactions you make today will be there right now but not always. So don't make the mistake of counting on what your computer says you have in your account because your computer can have issues too.

I use Bank of America and have seen a deposit one month show up by the time I get home and yet sometimes it won't show up for 24 hours, sometimes 48!!

Since tomorrow is a business day, my bet is that those missing transactions will appear in your online statement sometime after noon EST.

Optimum online?

i'm thinking of switching from verizon online DSL to optimum online since verizon's highest plan is 3MB/s and Optimum online is 15 MB/s (huge difference), there are a few things though. 1) i've been reading some seriously bad reviews on optimum about the prices and the costumer service, also about them not giving the full speed they claim. is this true? and what is all about this "secret cap" i've been hearing and that they keep disconnecting you unless you pay fully in every bill. 2) will i need to switch my current phone line from verizon to optimum just to switch my online service? 3) how much do i have to pay after those 6 months of paying $23.95? and is it true that they keep making the rates higher and higher every month by giving you dumb excuses?

I don't know a lot about optimimum, but if you have this many fears, you should just go to a cable connection if you can. Right now Time Warner Road Runner is only $29.95 a month for the first 12 months. It will go up some after that, depending on the services that you use. To make the vorizon connection better, I recommend you visit http://www.speedguide.net and usr their Broadband Optimizer. This will tweak your registry so that the computer and modem will work better together. Hope this helps

Microsoft doesn't run a lottery anywhere (link 1 below). The real Australian Lottery is run by Tattersall's, and they've published a press release warning about this sort of lottery scam (link 2 below). I also included a couple general links to information about fake lottery emails.

While some people might only copy and paste such email to their answer with a brief take on it, I will go into detail because I'm tired of this trash, as several of my friends have lost their a$$es to this scam. This is about as far away from legitimate as anything can get, whether it be a contest, promotion, or whatever.

There exists a certain form of immoral degenerate that trolls the internet searching for suckers who believe that they have gotten very lucky and won a lottery which they have never entered. They will probably entice you to send an advance fee to claim your non-existant winnings and if you do send this money, you can kiss it goodbye. The money will likely be en-route to Nigeria, a cesspool of fraud that has been the center of these types of fraud over the last few decades.

The best thing to do is to delete such emails immediately and to never reply to them. If you even reply, you risk having your email inbox flooded. If you call these people, expect to be harrassed over the phone at all hours of the night! In some cases, people who travel to claim their winnings in Nigeria are taken hostage, and in worse-case scenarios are killed when whoever is paying ransom payments exhausts their money supply. If anything online sounds to good to be true it always is buddy.

By the way, I have kind of become an anti-scam activists due to the fact that I have many friends who have had their identities and life savings stolen from them via these methods.

This is simply advance fee fraud (a prevalent type of fraud which continously asks for money to cover unforseen expenses) and is intended to drain your bank account, promising money that simply does not exist. Hopefully, this answers your question.

Does anyone know any good online High Schools? My parents are going to sign me up for a virtual school but we dont know which one to sign up for? There are so many online schools out there we dont know which ones would be good for us. If you have any reveiws or know any good/fun online highschools please share!

Fun Online Schools?
Alot of it depends on what state you are in. Go to k12.com and see if they offer a virtual academy where you live. They have a great curriculum and they offer tons of support for the student and the parents. There are a lot of people that are very very satisified with these schools and would recommend them. You would have a teacher for each class and you would have assignments to turn in weekly...which you would do thru fax or email. They send you an all-in-one printer, so you can fax from home. Reply:There is Connections Academy goes up to eleventh grade but it will be getting twelve grade soon. It is great. You get a wide variety of electives and there are tons of clubs. There are a lot of fun field trips to take. Go to www.connectionsacademy.com to see if it is in your state.

Online line schools are fun. You get to chose you schedule and you have livelesson which are like classes but they have a specific point. You can go on vacation a lot and do your work on the trip or work ahead. You learn a lot because it is at your pace and there are no distractions.

For probably over a year now, the 'online now' blinking things don't work for my myspace. I can't see when I'm online [like if I look at my own page, i don't see it] and i can't tell when my friends are on either. I hate it because I never know who's online or anything. Does anyone know what that is? Is it my computer or something? And it's NOT that I have the 'hide online now' setting checked. I don't. This is so frustrating.

Edit Profile, then in the top right you will see account settings. From there go down and click on privacy settings, and its in the checklist at the bottom. Be sure to click on sign out when you are done on myspace.com otherwise it will have you appearing online until the system resets itself about every hour or so.

If someone changed the privacy settings to 'no-one' for 'online status', can someone see if you are online with the applications? Facebook have some applications that let you know who's online and who's checking your page. If my setting is set to "no one", does the applications can overrule my private settings, and let people know that I'm online? Thanks!

EA Games "Generals" and "Zero Hour" (aerial view)

and "Company of Heroes" (aerial view)

I can't stand games where your ground level like "Socom" and "Doom" they make me sick.

I like games where you can see an aerial view of the entire map like Generals and Company of Heroes.

"Company of Heroes" is the best online aerial view game I have ever played. Full of WW2 action.

I tryed Civilization IV and Ages of Empire 3 and wasn't too impressed. It takes too long to build. I don't like games that take forever to build forces.

Ground level games or FPS(First Person Shooters) are better because your actually in the action,you have to fight the badguys.Your the one that has to run around and actually fight.

Aerial view games as you put it or Strategy games are just point and click games.No effort needed

You just watch the action and not participating in it.

Its better to fight and be in the action than it is to watch from a distance and just wave a mouse pointer around and give orders.

Do companies actual choose someone with an online degree if they are up against someone with a degree from a "real life" college or university. I'm asking b/c I keep debating it for myself. And, what in what fields are online degrees most accepted? I am also not asking about taking a few courses online from a university, I'm talking about those strictly online programs.

Are online degrees actually valuable?
Education always has value - no matter where you get it. However, you should get the most relevant type of education for the job you want to get. That sounds simpler than it is.

If you want to work in business, there are tons of courses on line that you can take. The quality of the classes varies, that is why you should check out the source before you sign up and pay money. That is why most people who want a credible track record use on line courses from genuine schools. Believe me, employers know the diploma mills (the ones that give credit for little or no work).

If you want to get a job that requires hands on experience - say auto mechanics - well, no one is going to hire a person with an academic degree to fix their car - unless you have experience fixing cars.

So, figure out what you want to study, don't skimp on getting classes that meet the goals of your employment goals.

When it comes time to apply for the job, your degree may not matter as much as you think. Some employers accept experience in the field in place of some education. Others accept a transcript that show the courses you took that will meet their needs.

Academic achievements and work experience will get you in the door for a job interview - if you are trying to enter a new profession where you have little education and/or experience - then certainly you have some re-training to do. It won't matter where the education comes from - as long as the school has an honest reputation.

I am considering an online degree because I work full time and I am not able to get the classes I need at night at my local university. Online degrees are becoming more popular and are more convenient to obtain for full time employees. My concern is whether employers are willing to hire someone with an online degree as opposed to a conventional classroom degree. Do employers think a person has the proper training/knowledge if an online degree is obtained?

I have received two Masters from Online programs, and yes, they are just as viable! Most businesses will not look at where or how you gained your degree- but whether or not the school is accredited! Good luck!
Reply:That is why I decided to get my degree online. It was the best thing I have ever done. I can work at my own pace (as long as I finish everything by Sunday). Do your homework before you select a school and make sure they have what you want and are within your price range. Google the school and find out what other people think of it...student opinions. That might help you see how respected the program is.

I asked a business owner about this...and his reply was:

"Yeah, by all the other suckers who paid their money to get a quick and easy degree for little or no effort. But, if you came to my office to apply for a job with one of those "degrees", I'd call the janitor to sweep you and you useless paper work OUT of my building. God Bless you"....

We're one of the largest employers in the state and we require degrees to be regionally accredited to be considered for employment.

Online, onground, hybrid format degrees are all equally acceptable.

We strive to protect our organization from unaccredited credentials such as Kennedy Western, Almeda, Rochville, etc.

That being said, the degree gets you considered, but your skills and experience get you hired.

I have already sent an answer for this Qn. But, after reading the other answers I find people profusely use the terms such as accredited,recognised, regionally approved,affiliated,MOU with US universities etc vaguely misguiding readers to join such commercial ventures. Would such advocates send their wards to these schools!. These days even a tutorial institute has a website with tall claims such as offering courses for 30 years, registered as a educational society with the local government. approved by ... Govt..etc.,

I can list many but can't name them here to avoid litigations.

I may suggest one simple test to identify fake commercial institutes/universities.Check their faculty list,

...mostly it will be missing. They may display an advisory committee consisting of many doctorates in other renouned universities around the globe. Innocent or more correctly ignorant professors lend their names for misuse by such bogus institutes. I would suggest that answerers should restrict to answering Questions on truely known area only.
Reply:If a college is accredited, there are standards that they must abide by in order to receive accreditation. That said, an accredited distance learning program is no different academically than a traditional school.

The business owner you talked to may be speaking out of ignorance.
Reply:The way to look at this is, if you want to get an online degree because it is convenient for you, you have to get it from a school who is brick and mortar school meaning that they offer online courses but also have an actual campus location. It is also best to get an online degree that is both a traditional (offers on campus ) courses and online, that is regionally accreditied, and does not specify on your actual diploma whether it was an online degree on not. I would also make sure it is a school that is recognized in some sort, for instance, if you hear University of Phoenix your employer is going to know you completed it online, opposed to doing your degree online at lets say University of South Florida....Good luck!
Reply:I've reviewed hundreds of resumes for my employers. An online degree isn't impressive at all, but it would be better than no education and no experience. I'd give preference to someone with appropriate experience over someone with an online degree, because online degrees imply that the person is trying to get something for the least effort possible, someone who looks for the get-rich-quick trick instead of putting in hard work to earn fair rewards.

Reply:I echo what others have told you. A degree offered from an institution that exists only online is suspect, as there's no accreditation making the education you receive there meet any standards.

However, the 'distance learning' programs at colleges and universities which have a campus and student body, with full accreditation, are not the same at all. Some may require physical attendance for a portion of your credits while others can be earned online. Either way, you would still have earned a bachelor's from the University of X, and it has the same worth whether you did all of it in person or online.

Hi Guys!! I found it absolutely surprising to make an online purchase with an invalid billing address and still my order was approved by the merchant - i've just purchased a download from a leading anti-virus software provider and mistakenly entered a completely wrong billing address and still my order was approved.

It makes me feel worried about the high risk of fraudulent activity loopholes online digital product providers contributes to ecommerce in general.

Can anyone supply me with any online store that will not allow the kind of transaction i have just experienced (i need a store that will decline transactions when billing address isn't valid or compatible with banks record); before i put an end to ever transacting online.

I can't give you links because I don't know what you are shopping for. What I can tell you (I do this for a living) is that the merchant has a large number of options to pick from for credit card verification. Some merchants will just accept card number and date, some will verify the card code (three digits on the back of the card). Vendors can turn AVS (address verification service) on or off, obviously your vendor had it off. They can also reject transactions which exceed an amount they deem reasonable. They can reject if too many transactions with the same card arrive in too short a time. There are things you can't see: the vendor should encrypt transaction information exchanged with his card processor, for example. He can completely block selected users.

Obviously, your vendor has chosen a very low level of security. This is a problem, and you are right to complain. But the next vendor may make other decisions, and other mistakes.

When I set these up, I've always used a simple rule for verification: something you have, something you know. The something you have is the credit card. The something you know is the address. Yes, there are flaws with that logic, but there are limits to what you can do.

Cheap but Accredited Online School?
If you MUST take online courses, you should DEFINITELY take them under the auspices of a well-known and REGIONALLY (not nationally) accredited university. Many reputable state universities offer affordable online courses (and even degrees) these days. Please do research before you waste your money. Stay away from for-profit online schools. Stick with Distance Education programs from known state schools.

Here is a list of regional accreditation associations. If the program you are considering is not accredited by one of these bodies, you should look elsewhere.

Mabey im wrong- anyone here ever meet someone who met thier significant othr online? I just have a hard time believing iot works. I have a hunch seeking romance online is used by people who can't meet people in real life...So its for losers...Stick to meeting people in bars.

Reply:I've never actually tried the sites myself, but my roomates mom and stepdad met on a dating site. They've been happily married now for several years. BUT I also have a friend who was stupid and went alone and met a guy from a dating site and he beat her up a bit after she went to his hotel room. She said she was scared for her life. I know a LOT of people who met their offline significant other online. The internet (including dating sites) can be a good tool in helping to meet people, network, make friends, and find people who are compatible to date.

People go on "blind dates" all the time and that's not considered weird...why would going out with someone you actually know a few things about, and probably what they look like, be wierd?

Most of the guys I've dated in the past decade have been ones I've met online in some way...I've had the opportunity to go out with people I'd probably never have crossed paths with in my usual daily life.

If it's not for you, don't do it...but MANY people have had great success with it. The only losers are the ones who whine about being unhappy, yet never do anything to change that.

hey,,, I live in Germany (Im german) and my girlfriend (soon wife) is american and she lives in the states right now...

she wants to come live with me in may08 and go to school...

which universities are good and offer online classes??

are the online classes a lot more expensive than attending the college in person??

I think she wants to do psycology...

Most schools have online courses. In fact I dont know of any that dont. I would suggest she enroll at one that would be close to where the two of you will be moving. Example if your moving to Kentucky go online and Kentucky school. Dont do just an online school make sure its a real school with a real campus. The cost are usually the same or slightly cheaper then going to the real class.

Some of them have an age limit (such as - Capella; If you do not have an undergrad degree, you must be 25 to attend). My suggestion is for her to check out ELearners.com, where they have an extensive list of online colleges. Make sure they are accredited and that they offer certification in whatever area she is going into, especially if it has to do with Psychology

I have found that online classes are comparative to face-to-face classes when transportation and boarding is considered! Most will not ask her to attend the campus, but she may have to attend some form of residency if she is going into Psychology!

Virtual campuses (schools that are strictly online) are just as good as ones who have real campuses...in fact, it has been my experience that they are pedagogically more sound as their instructors/facilitators are usually trained in the art of teaching online (which is totally different than teaching a face-to-face class). Have her research each college...thoroughly. To find out what others have to say, she could check out http://www.ratemyprofessors.com. This will give her an idea of what the teachers are like. She can also check at http://www.petersons.com/ - which has some excellent resources for anyone looking to go to school online.

Good luck with this...and my best advice? I'm thinking about starting my own online CCG retail business, but I'm wondering if there are any small business online CCG retailers who make enough from solely their online store to sustain them. I've tried email several small businesses asking them similar questions but of course they never reply. I'm assuming they think if they answer they'd be helping out their potential competition.

Also, I was thinking of preordering several cases of Magic: The Gathering booster packs or decks which will be coming out later this year and selling them in person in a public place to try and raise enough money to even start my own online store. Where would be a good place to do this without getting into any trouble?

Lastly, what would be some of the most beneficial/cost effective ways to advertise what I'm selling or my business whether my business be in person or online?

Any help with any of these 3 questions would be greatly appreciated.

I bet you there are some that sell enough to sustain themselves. If you want to start a business, you should consider what it entails:

* get website domain

* build website - choosing either do it yourself, pay someone ,etc

As for selling items in a public place - you likely will get in trouble. Find out if there's a hobby club or school club in your area if you want to sell some things in person.

As for online marketing, you will always have to run a couple test campaigns to see what the best method is and evaluate the return you get on what you are spending.

The reason why SSBB was probably delayed is because Nintendo wants to work on the online more. Just think about it for a second. When online for SSBB was first announced on all the blogs and forums fans where pissed with the limited online capabilites like you don't know who you are versing or that there is virtually no form of communication between yourself and your opponents. Or that there is no lobby to choose from which game you want to be in. I mean it all makes sence. Nintendo wants to improve SSBB's online system big time and that is great.

I agree. I would much rather wait more for SSBB and it have great online play, than releasing it now and having crap online play. One of the main reasons I would buy it is for the online play. Also, what would be great if nintendo released, is a wireless headset for wii so u can chat while playing Super smash and mario kart wii.

I have played a lot of online games, eaven world of warcraft. But there seem that all online games doesent have an end. So you can just play and play, but never get finish. So, is it a waste of time to play online, or should i maybe play roleplaying based games. I'm 15 so i just think about i will move out about like 8 years or so i think..not quite sure. Therefore i think that i will never finish an online game annyway, get to the highest lv and etc. Anny ideas?

I kinda think that online games are a waste of time, but maybe it's because I don't play online games. When I think about it, it is kind of pointless to play a game that never ends. But, online games are just for enjoyment to me.

I play console games(PS1, PS2, PS3) and I think that they are more worth your time because they have a story and I think that they have more meaning to them.

Reply:Your question is a bit puzzling. Basis RPG's usually do have an end to them. (Though they quite often "leave the door open" for another game to follow in the series.) I enjoyed the game Diablo 2. It had an end to it. It is the MMORPGs that don't ever end. I tend to agree with you that games without some kind of end to them seem pointless in a way. I raised a similar question to yours a while back in Yahoo Answers but got only one response. I haven't had a whole lot of experience with MMORPGs other than that silly Runescape game, so maybe I am not in some kind of "experienced" position to really answer your question accurately. I have pretty much decided I don't care that much for role-playing games in general, whether they are of the stand alone, or the on-line variety, though. It does seem like your time could be better spent than devoting hours and hours leveling up your character in such games. But I guess it is like the others are saying. It is just some form of entertainment for the moment. (It does beat that reality TV nonsense that has taken over television these days) I prefer the action genre of games myself. It seems like you get more bang for the buck with them. (with bang being the amount of time you put into them, and buck being what you get back in return in the way of fun). Consider switching to them.

When you ask if risky I'm thinking you're looking at online 'offers' that ask you for money first, then maybe you make something. Many of these can just be taking your money so do be careful.

I will warn you though, night time is the slowest time to play. It ALWAYS has been. And its worse now that fewer ppl play.

Getting A Wii Online?

I'm trying to get my Wii online, and I seem to have run into a problem. I'm using the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB as my choice of getting online. I installed it and followed all the guides online, and I'm able to get my DS online and play games with it no problems, but my Wii is a different story. I was able to get my computer to recognize my Wii, and I am online, but when I go to test my connection with my Wii I get no results. I have no firewalls blocking it either, so I'm not sure what to do, any suggestions?

My name is Alex, recently turned 20 and I am seriously considering taking online classes. I think its more acceptable to ask for help when you need it instead of thinking you know it all. If you could give me your thoughts/experiences with online courses it would be greatly appreciated. Also if you could talk a little bit about the following topics would be even better. I need all the help I can get.

(1) Online classes worth it? Are they expensive?

(2) Do you know any good schools for Computer Programming with good credibility? (ITT TECH, AIU Online etc?

(3) Where can I talk to a counselor?

(4) Any other useful information?

As someone who's responsible for hiring people at my fortune 100 company, I can honestly say that any resume sporting an on-line degree goes into the "circular file", regardless of their other qualifications.

I have my MBA from a traditional school, and shortly after I graduated and continually until this day, I have been solicited by the UoP to teach on-line business courses for them. While I have several years of work experience (which they didn't know), I was apparently qualified simply because they purchased a mailing list of graduates from my school and saw I had a degree. Not that PhD professors are better teachers, because some of mine really sucked as communicators, but asking people with limited work and educational experience to teach students shows a lack of concern about educational quality, and more about getting an instructor at a cheap price. If you don't believe me, check out the career section on the UoP site or other job boards and you'll see the low standards they set for educators. (see the ad below)

Getting a real degree tells me the applicant can make a long term commitment that requires sacrifice. On-line classes are the ultimate sign of laziness. With all real colleges offering part-time or evening classes, going the on-line route suggests you're looking for the easy way out. Most employers within reputable companies, including myself, won't take a chance.

Lastly, be prepared for the teasing, either publically, or more probably, behind your back, by your co-workers with real degrees.

I have taken online classes in the past and I enjoyed it over traditional class room courses. The freedom to study around my work schedule was great. I would do it again. As for credibility, I believe it would depend on the institution you choose for your courses or degree.

Most colleges will have counselors that you can speak to, but keep in mind that private schools and colleges can be very expensive and sometimes the number 1 priority is to sell their program to you because you bring in big money to the school. (It is not always like this, but I have seen it.) I have worked for a private college and I was frustrated to see admission counselors admit students that clearly wouldn't be successful in a college course, but it was all about the $.

As far as cost goes, again it would depend on the program and school that you choose. Typically, private colleges are most expensive than state colleges. If cost is an issue, you might want to look into any state colleges to see if they have online courses. I have seen more traditional universities add online courses and degrees to their curriculum.

Most courses and degree programs are eligible for financial aid, even if they are online courses. Again, look for accredited programs.

Do most online schools offer general classes to earn your associates. I was wondering if you can get math and science credits online as well as English and History. Excelsior College in Albany, NY. Fully accredited distance education, you can access it from anywhere. Unlike the online diploma mills you always hear about, this private college is well-respected and its graduates are frequently accepted into regular grad school. It used to be the distance education arm of the State University at Albany (SUNY) where I work, and went private some years ago.

Whats the best online bank for a 16 year old? I have had a custodial account with bank of America probably since i was 8 or so. I get .2% interest which i now realize is terrible. I have about 4K, and and im putting in around 400$ a month now with my job.

I would really like a online bank but I'm having a hard time finding one that accepts people under 18 and doesn't charge insace monthly fee's. I wold really like a free one.

Hey

So I am interested in creating an online rpg which will be like a program. I mean not like online RPGs that are played via the web browser but online RPGs like World of Wracraft.

Of course and I know that there is NO WAY to make something like World of Warcraft on my own! I just want it to be online like World Of Warcraft. like players to be able to see other players online.

I know some things I need like learning c/c++/c#. Also I need a server or if it's gonna be big I'll most probably need more servers but generally, I need a server so users will connect.

So how exactly though can I make a graphic game with c/c++/c#. I've done some re-search and it says I can do that but at all the classes I took online none said about graphics. :s

Hi Guys!! I found it absolutely surprising to make an online purchase with an invalid billing address and still my order was approved by the merchant - i've just purchased a download from a leading anti-virus software provider and mistakenly entered a completely wrong billing address and still my order was approved.

It makes me feel worried about the high risk of fraudulent activity loopholes online digital product providers contributes to ecommerce in general.

First of all, the post above me is wrong. The store isn't involved in security at all; your credit card company is.

The problem you're experiencing is likely caused by the fact that addresses are only checked for reliability by your 5-digit zip code. If your shipping address' zip code matches the zip code your credit card company has on hand, you'll be approved.

There are no stores online where you can type in an incorrect shipping address with the correct zip code and be disapproved. (Unless, of course, you're disapproved for another reason.)

due to the circumstances in my life right now, i'd like to study online. i already have a B.A. and i'm looking to get into something different, by doing a certificate or some sort of online program. does anyone of know reputable online universities or reputable universities' online courses? i've seen a lot of advertisements for university of phoenix online...but i don't know if these kind of things are scams, or if they will be taken seriously by my future employer.

The ones that you see on the TV and internet ads are typically low-quality, and will have very little weight when an employer considers them on a resume. However, there are a number of Universities that offer online continuing education that also have brick-and-mortar locations. Note that Boston University, Cornell University, and Gonzaga University all appear on this list. These are highly reputable institutions that will offer a decent program over the Internet.

That said, it would probably be a better choice to attend continuing education programs at a local college. The experience of actually being in a classroom is often a more powerful way to learn new things than using a computer.

we have an ethernet connection, but my schools internet is so bad, every time i try to log on to either halo2 online or socom 3 or final fantasy xi or whatever, i cant get online. i have friends that play online games on their computers. they dont know anything about videogame consoles. ive called the computer support at my school. they just say that online videogaming is not a top priority (what kinda BS is that?) any suggestions as to what i should do to attempt to get online?

real quik, another thing about socom 3 is that i can get online into the main menu, i can type friends who are in games, but i cannot actually join a game. is it just that my schools connection to the internet is that bad? please help. any info would be greatly appreciated. im goin through withdrawels here!

dude its not your internet speed, its just probably being blocked by some program, i got the same thing at mine!
Reply:It's probably a fire wall that rejects the type of connection you need to play a game. It just sees a foreign computer trying to access one of its own programs and it naturally stops this type of connection like it is programmed to. See if you can get to firewall controls somewhere and loosen the connection you're using.

I am considering opening a WaMu account online for a small online sole proprietorship I am starting.

They do not have any branches or banking centers in my area, so all transactions would have to be conducted online.

They do not offer a small business checking account online, so I would have to go with a personal account and use that for operations.

Is this a good option or should I just break down and go to a more expensive bank in my area? My biggest concerns would be transferring cash from my day to day checking to this account and overall hassle not having a brick and mortar bank here.

Any additional advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

I agree with the previous answer. I have worked in a bank, in the small business deposit accounts. You should have an account with the business name on it, especially if you are going to have checks made out to the business name. I know for a fact that will WaMu may not accept a deposit with the business name on it to your personal account. Shop around the banks in your area I am sure you will find one that fits your needs.
Reply:As a bank employee, i would highly recommend going with a business account in your area. Not only for tax purposes, but for the legitimacy of the account. Something with your business name on it will allow you to deposit checks made out to the business. Things may be different in Canada, but probably not that much :) Not to mention, if and when you have a problem, you'll have to contact the phone bank, which in itself isn't that easy. They have a easier time saying no to you than a brick and mortar.

side note: Not only that, but in my personal experience, WaMU isn't the best consumer bank-- they screwed me pretty bad.

The other day I switched on my ps2, went online and found that nobody was playing any of the games I had, with the exception of Socom 2, in which there was one game set up in the Netherlands I couldn't understand a word they were saying and they all laughed at me because I was so bad. I just wondered for you Ps2 online games, although times moved on to the PS3, what online games are you playing or ones that you know of that are being played/ aren't being played. I play alot of online PC games but feel like a change.
