Online Play On Various Consoles?

I have one question that has been bothering me lately.

How come other (recent) consoles that should easily integrate online play these days simply do not? They all seem to offer online play, but it seems like no console has come close to the online services offered by xbox live. Yes, xbox live has a small fee - but it far surpasses any other online play I have encountered.

For example, the Wii - this is much newer than the original xbox which truly brought online play to consoles and did it well. There are some big games on Wii that would be great online, but it just doesn't work out that way. Super Smash Brothers has online, but it is horrible - even if the servers are working. People do not have a unique username across all games, cannot chat, hard to know when other friends are on...All these drawbacks make online play nearly impossible - it's more work to find people to play with when it should be about the playing.

Playstation seems to suffer similar issues.

I agree with you fully. I myself own a Wii and a 360, and my brother owns a PS3. The online play between the 3 is uncomparable. 360 wins hands down.

But, in order to have the best running online system, the 360 lacks in other areas. It does not have the small size, durability or cool wireless remote functionality as the Wii, and it doesnt have the visually stunning graphics or blu ray technology of the PS3.

So while Microsoft was enhancing its XBOX LIVE service, Sony and Nintendo were enhancing options completely different.

I guess when choosing a system you have to seriously consider what you are going to primrily use it for. Solo play with internet functionality? Get the Wii. Some multiplayer gaming but mostly movies and multimedia? PS3 is your choice. But for complete online play and competition, with a very wide variety of games available, the 360 is the best choice.

Who knows, maybe as we speak Sony and Nintendo are working on the online play issue....

=)
Reply:i agree i might sell my wii and get a 360
Reply:Thats because they dont offer a pay service. The pay service of Live is far superior, its not too expensive but as u say, its much more reliable, and better interface, and so many other things.

I have a PS3, and a 360 both, and th PS3 is really really really really bad!!

Wait, add about 27.5 really's to that sentence, thats how bad it is.

Cuz Nintendo and Sony arent willing to put on a pay-for service, they dont wanna have to go to expense to keep it well maintained, so they slap up a server, watever they can get, then leave it pretty much! Whereas u kno that Live will deliver every time u switch on ur xbox.
