Should All Online Games Be Free To Play Online?

OK, I play many online games and most of them are free, but some games, such as Phantasy Star Online charge a subscription fee.


Considering I have been playing it since day one, and always had a subscription, I've easily gave Sega a few hundred quid, but they don't do anything in the game, they can't be arsed to ban cheaters, they don't provide enough downloadable quests, (they pretty much abandoned PSO3), and they don't moderate the servers, they are in essence charging you and not providing a service, (their TOS doesn't include an "as is" clause, so this is technically against the law).


Also, it's not like the bandwidth used costs that much, many unofficial servers are free, and also, many other online games are free, usually by using the hosts router as a client-side hosting hub, (heck, I got 40gb bandwidth, and I'm lucky if I use 2gb).





Games like Guild Wars, Diablo 2, and Neverwinter Nights are free online, so I believe all other games should be too.

I agree with u on this one. Companies want us to buy and play there games. So we buy them the one thing that should come free is the online play. If they want us to play so badly online and see how much fun it is put it free. I will never pay for a game and then have to pay monthly for online time. I think all games that can be played online should be free. People would buy more game if that were the case.

Reply:Why shouldn't they be? Shouldn't the price you paid for the game itself be MORE than enough? Charging people extra to play online is just plain stupid!
